Our agency provides exemplary legal representation for every arm of the State, fights human trafficking, helps victims of crime, protects our constituents, and runs the most effective Child Support Enforcement program.We are seeking a midand#8209;level Backend Developer with a strong foundation in Java, SQL, and interface development to support the modernization, enhancement, and integration of enterprise applications. This role works under limited supervision, with latitude for initiative, independent judgment, and problemand#8209;solving in a complex technology environment.The OAG is committed to providing innovative, modern, and value-driven IT services to the agency. OAG employees enjoy excellent benefits (https://ers.texas.gov/Benefits-at-a-Glance) along with tremendous opportunities to do important work at a large, dynamic state agency making a positive difference in the lives of Texans.Design, develop, enhance, and maintain backend services, APIs, and system interfaces supporting enterprise level applications.Develop high quality Java based components, leveraging secure coding practices, structured design patterns, and maintainable code principles.Build and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and data access layers that ensure reliable data integration and exchange.Participate in integration development efforts, including API design, data interchange, and orchestration using preferred platforms (Talend Cloud, MuleSoft).Collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including application defects, integration failures, and data inconsistencies.Participate in Agile ceremonies, provide accurate estimations, contribute to sprint delivery, and support continuous improvement activities.Performs related work as assignedMaintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functionsAttends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Telework schedules are permitted for employees based on the agencyand#8217;s approved Telework Plan (if schedule does not adversely affect operations and service levels, and standard hours of operation are maintained).Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected informationComplies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity Qualifications: Education: Graduation from high school or equivalentExperience: Three years of experience with programming concepts and programming languages, including Java; may substitute credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.Experience with SQL and relational database developmentExperience in backend development or interface/integration developmentKnowledge of programming concepts and OO design principlesKnowledge or exposure to web or application development fundamentalsSkill in Java programming, SQL development, debugging, and integration workflowsSkill in learning new technologies and working in modern application environmentsSkill in critical thinking, problem solving, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced teamSkill or willingness to learn new technologies, processes, and coding languagesSkill in problem solving, in critical thinking, in programming, in the use of hardware and software, and in modifying or developing software for applicationsSkill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlinesSkill in effective communicationSkill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision makingAbility to demonstrate and act upon a passion for digital transformation and drive to make a difference as a public servant working high priority projects and work under the Applications Development TeamAbility and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and toolsAbility to receive and respond positively to constructive feedbackAbility to work cooperatively with others in a professional environmentAbility to work in person at an OAG work location, if neededAbility to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel, if neededAbility to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSAAbility to lift and relocate 10 lbs.Ability to travel up to 5%PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Bachelorand#8217;s degree from an accredited college or university preferredExperience in the IT field, with agile methodologies, or working on IT projectsExperience designing or supporting REST APIs or microservicesExperience with Talend Cloud, MuleSoft, or other enterprise integration/middleware technologiesTo apply for a job with the OAG, electronic applications can be submitted through CAPPS Recruit.
